Las Vegas

Theresa and I decided to take a weekend trip to Las Vegas. Theresa is one of my high school friends. We stayed at the Mandalay Bay Hotel which was very nice. We got in late on a Friday night and played a few slot machines and ate supper. Saturday we went to the pool area. Mandalay Bay has a wonderful pool area. We did a few laps floating in the lazy river and we ventured into the wave pool also. We ate lunch at the Border Grill and then we walked through Mandalay Bay's Shark Reef. Later that evening, we headed over to Treasure Island. We played a few rounds of blackjack and then ate supper at the Buckaneer Bay restaurant. The food and Asti wine were wonderful! After dinner, we went to see Mystere, one of the Cirque Du Soleil shows. It was great! After the show, we were hoping to see the Sirens of TI show, but it was cancelled due to high winds. I guess the actors can not jump off the boat into the water in "high winds". There were some flags that were standing still so we were surprised that they cancelled the show due to the wind. We went over to the new Wynn hotel to check it out. We were not there at the top of the hour so we missed the fountain show. Then we headed over to the Venetian for a bit and headed home. Our feet were killing us by that time. I don't know how people can walk around all night in Vegas in their high heels!

Sunday we laid out by the pool again in the morning. In the afternoon, we headed to Spa Mandalay. My massage and wrap were wonderful! After the spa, we got ready and headed out for the evening. We walked through all of the hotels on our way to Caesar's Palace. We ate at the Palm Restaurant. Theresa got a filet and I got a ribeye. They were awesome! I have never seen a ribeye that big before! We did a little bit of shopping in the Forum Shops. We went next door to the Mirage and saw Siegfried and Roy's white tiger and watched the volcano erupt. We walked through a few more hotels and made it to Paris just in time for our apple crepes. We were the second to last people to get crepes since they closed at 11 p.m. I got a ceramic Paris balloon mug filled with strawberry daquiri too. We went by the Bellagio to watch the fountains, but the show was cancelled due to high winds. Augh. We headed back to our hotel. Theresa went to bed and I went down to the casino to do some gambling. I did pretty good. I put $20 in a slot machine and cashed out with $100. Then I put $60 down on a blackjack table and cashed out with $400. I was on fire! I was pretty happy with my winnings so I went back to the room and went to bed. On Monday morning, we hit the breakfast buffet and headed to the airport. We were sitting on the wrong side of the plane so we didn't get a good view of the Hoover Dam or Grand Canyon. Oh well. Theresa wouldn't look out the window anyways and I have seen them quite a few times. The trip was a lot of fun and I can't wait to go back again! I have probably been to Las Vegas about 7-8 times now and I still love it!

Not too much else is going on. Stephen was in Seattle this weekend finishing up a conference. He went to Mount Ranier yesterday and did some hiking. It started snowing just as he was leaving. Today he spent most of the day on planes. He flew from Seattle to Dallas (~ 4 hours) and from Dallas to Boston (~4 hours). This should be his last week in Boston. His next project will be in San Diego. That will be a nice place to be this winter. Stephen has relatives in San Diego and L.A. so hopefully we will get to visit them too.

I better get going since I need to do some work tonight. I hope you all had a great weekend! Next weekend, Stephen and I are going to the musical Wicked and the Texas State Fair. I have heard such great things about Wicked so I can't wait to see it.

Wedding, Bachelorette Party, Birthday

Hi everyone! I just added two new links on the right side of this page. The top link is from Tim and Misty’s wedding on September 24. I work with Tim at Texas Instruments. They got married in Pottsboro, TX, which is on the Oklahoma-Texas border. They were supposed to have an outdoor wedding on the bank of Lake Texoma, but due to Hurricane Rita, they had to change and have an indoor wedding at the last minute. The wedding was beautiful and the reception was a lot of fun.

Hurricane Rita did not impact us much in Dallas. We were hoping for some rain, but we missed out on that. We did get a lot of strong wind though. I need to rake my backyard and I don’t even have any trees or plants in the backyard. The leaves must be from the neighbors’ trees.

The other new link on the right side of this page is from Carrie McGowan’s Bachelorette Party in Chicago. Carrie’s sister, Erin, was my college roommate at The University of Iowa for all four years. Erin and I lived in the dorms our freshman and sophomore years. Carrie was still in high school but she visited us frequently. Erin, Leslie, and I lived together our junior year. Erin, Leslie, Carrie, Renee, and I all lived together my senior year. We had some great times together!!

Carrie’s Bachelorette Party was a lot of fun!! Carrie, Erin, Kelly, Lindsay, Tonya, and Jen all drove to Chicago from Iowa. Allison, Renee, and Laura all live in Chicago. Friday night we went to The Melting Pot, a fondue restaurant. It was soooo good! We hung out at O’Callaghan’s afterwards. Saturday we went to get manicures and pedicures in the morning. Then we had lunch and shopped on Michigan Avenue. We dropped Carrie off to get a massage while we decorated the hotel room. Tonya made sour apple martini’s and we played the “brown bag game” and a trivia game. After everyone guessed what was in the brown bags, Carrie got to open them up and keep all of the “toys.” :) I think Matt will appreciate those. Carrie also got to open her gifts. Four out of eight of us all bought Carrie the exact SAME tank top/bottoms from Target!! Jen and Tonya found out in advance that they bought the same thing so one of them returned theirs so Carrie only ended up with three of them. How funny! Saturday night we ate at Joey Buona’s and then headed to the dueling piano bar, Howl At The Moon. We had a great time there as you can see from the pictures. The guy in the pink shirt really entertained us and the guy in the white/yellow stripe shirt helped Carrie complete one of her dares from the trivia game. :) When the bar closed at 3 a.m., five of us continued on and hung out at another bar until 5 a.m. What a fun weekend!

This next weekend Theresa (my friend from high school) and I are going to Las Vegas. It should be a lot of fun! We are spending one afternoon at the Mandaly Bay spa and going to Cirque du Soleil one night.

Last Friday was Stephen's 30th birthday. I left work after lunch and bought him the iPod Nano and some junkfood (cake, ice cream, etc.). Stephen was not too excited by the iPod at first until he opened it. He had not heard about the Nano. The iPod Nano is almost the size of a credit card and holds up to 1000 songs.

This week will probably be Stephen’s last week working in Boston. He will be in Seattle this Wednesday through the following Friday for some Microsoft conferences. After that he will start a new project. Right now it looks like he will be working on the west coast next in either San Diego or Oakland, California. That will be a nice change for him since he has been working on the east coast for the past couple years.

I guess I should sign off now and head to bed. Have a great week!

September 11, Iowa Hawkeyes, and Scotland

Hello! It just turned midnight so it is now officially September 11. It is our 6 year anniversary today. However, we will not be spending our anniversary together since Stephen had to stay in Boston this weekend to finish some work up before they go “live” on Monday. So, it looks like I will be spending our anniversary at home with Kendall and Jordan. Actually, I will probably spend all day Sunday working. :(

Today I just lounged around the house and watched college football. Unfortunately, I watched
the Iowa Hawkeyes take on the Iowa State Cyclones. I have already put the game out of my memory. I guess we won’t be going to the Rose Bowl this year! :( Let’s Go Hawks!!!

Stephen and I went to Scotland over Labor Day weekend. I just added pictures from our trip so be sure to click on the link on the right side of this page. We had a great time in Scotland. We arrived in Glasgow, Scotland, at 9:00 a.m. on Friday. We took a bus to Edinburgh and checked into our hotel around 11:00 a.m. We then washed up a bit and headed out to explore Edinburgh. The city has beautiful castles, churches, palaces, monuments, etc. We took a double-decker bus tour around the city and then we walked around to do some more sight-seeing. We toured Edinburgh Castle. We ate some pizza (we LOVE the pizza in Europe) and then we headed back to the hotel for some needed rest. We were exhausted. I only slept about one hour on the flight over and Stephen got two hours of sleep at most. In the past, we have “napped” when we arrived in Europe which really messed us up. Our “nap” would turn into 6-8 hours of sleep and we would wake up just in time to go back to bed. Scotland is 6 hours ahead of Texas. On Saturday, we took a bus tour to Linlithgow Palace, Stirling Castle, and Loch Lomond. On Sunday, we took a bus tour into the Highlands, searched for Nessie on Loch Ness, and got a chance to pet Hamish, the famous Highland Cow. We did not find Nessie, but the captain claims that they have found 18 different monsters and know their sizes and weights based on sonar. He also claims to have seen the Loch Ness Monster 6 times personally. Interesting. Sunday night Edinburgh had a fireworks display to celebrate the ending of the International Festival. Unfortunately, we could not see any of the fireworks by the end because so much fog had come in. It was sunny and beautiful (no rain) our entire stay until that night. It was 70 degrees when we were there which is very warm for Scotland. It sure beat the upper 90s in Texas!

This coming up weekend, I will be traveling to Chicago for a Bachelorette Party for one of my college roommates. It will be a lot of fun!!! I can't wait.

I guess I will head to bed now. Good night!

Welcome to our new website and blog! Check back frequently to see new Links to pictures from our recent travels.

Stephen and I will have been married for six years on September 11. We live in a suburb of Dallas, TX. I work at Texas Instruments as a product engineer and Stephen works for our corporation, Kendall Technologies, Inc, as a Microsoft BizTalk consultant. Stephen is currently working in Boston during the week. As you can see from our "Links", we like to travel frequently. We are lucky because many of the vacations we take are free since Stephen has many frequent flyer miles and hotel points.

We have two wonderful (but hyperactive) dogs - Kendall and Jordan. Kendall is almost 7 and Jordan is 3. Both are mutts. Kendall was a stray puppy that we found when she was around 4 months old. We do not know what sort of a mix she is. She reminds me of a Boxer/Dachsund mix. We paid $10 for Jordan at a flea market. She was a breeder's "oops." She is half Shih Tzu and half Red Heeler. Kendall recently hit a wire on the side of a fence so she currently has stitches and has to wear a cone on her head since she tore her stitches out twice.

Please enjoy our site and check back frequently for new pictures!
